It turned out to be a simple thing for Thanach to locate Giles’s family. They were staying at a chain hotel at the edge of town. When they arrived at the place, he made them visible again, and Thanach changed his glamour so he appeared human.

Giles looked at him with one eyebrow lifted. “Wow,” he whispered. “You’re, uh—” He snapped his mouth closed, and a lovely blush darkened his cheeks.

“I believe the word you’re looking for is hot,” Thanach teased, grinning widely. “Come on.”

Thanach rested his hand on the small of Giles’s back and used slight pressure to guide him toward the foyer. While he noticed how his amina tensed, he also appreciated that he didn’t pull away. It was a start.

The man behind the check-in counter did a double take when they entered. Thanach knew he still appeared almost six and a half feet tall and that drew a certain amount of attention. Giles’s shoulders tensed further, so Thanach lowered his hand, hoping that would help him relax a little.

It didn’t.

Thanach wondered at that.

Reaching the counter, Thanach offered the human a small smile as he pressed into the guy’s mind, implanting an image of him holding up a badge. “Where are the rooms for those under the name of Corsair?”

“Let me find that for you,” the man replied, immediately turning his attention to his computer.

Seeing Giles’s questioning expression, Thanach winked at him.

A few seconds later, the human told them, “The Corsairs are in rooms two-sixty-six and two-sixty-eight.”

“Thank you,” Thanach responded. He turned away from the guy, gripping Giles’s hip in the process and turning him, too. “Come on.”

To Thanach’s surprise, Giles seemed to press against his hand as if gathering support from his touch. He fought back a smile as he rounded the corner and hit the up button. The elevator doors immediately opened, so he urged Giles to precede him into the box.

Thanach hit the button for the second floor as he watched the doors close. He turned his attention to Giles and wrapped his arm around his shoulders. Holding him close, he realized the man was actually shaking.

“Hey,” Thanach crooned. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“I didn’t know you were going to allow me to hand deliver the letter,” Giles whispered, his expression somewhat haunted. “I wrote some things in there that... I’m not sure I’m ready to see my parents face to face.”

“Did you admit you’re gay in your letter?” Thanach guessed. He couldn’t think of anything else that would cause Giles’s fear, seeing as the scent suddenly flooded the small space.

“Yes,” Giles whispered.

Thanach heard the elevator ding as it came to a stop. He ignored that in favor of focusing on his amina and murmuring, “You don’t have to do or say anything to indicate we are more than friends right now, Giles.” He smirked down at his amina as he took in his surprised look. “We’ll have many years together to get you to that point. There is no rush.”

Giles met his gaze, his brows furrowing in concern.
